Vaishnavi Andra
Chair

Bio: Vaishnavi Andra is a 4th year Biomedical Engineering student pursuing a Material Science and Engineering minor. She has served on the board for more than 3 years and is highly passionate about creating a better BME community built off the collaboration of its 3 key pillars: the faculty and staff, the BME student organizations, and the student body. In addition to serving on SAB, she is involved in research and is a board member of India Club at Georgia Tech and AXS. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys exploring ATL, cooking, reading, and working out. After graduating, she plans on gaining some industry experience before returning to pursue graduate school.

 

 

Sirwoo Kim

Bio: Sirwoo Kim is a 4th year majoring in Biomedical Engineering from Daejeon, South Korea. She serves as the Pre-Health Peer Advisor for the Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2). She is also a Teaching Assistant in the BME department, a Presidential Undergraduate Research Award recipient, and a tour guide. She is also involved on campus as an executive member of bmedSAB and the Director of Initiate Programs for Tau Beta Pi. Besides work, she enjoys spending her time traveling, trying new food, and kickboxing. After graduating, she plans to do two gap years to do research and then apply for medical school.

 

 

Maité Marin-Mera

Bio: Maité is a 3rd year BME student pursuing a chemistry minor. After graduating she hopes to jump right into industry and maybe get an MBA somewhere down the line. Her other involvements include the Yellow Jacket Marching Band, SHPE, GT Student Ambassadors, and Hispanic Recruitment Team. She loves to spend her time outdoors and regularly go hiking.

 

 

Sondos Alnamos

Bio: Sondos is a fifth-year Biomedical Engineering student with minors in Industrial Design and Biology. She has done research for a gap year and is planning to work in industry for a couple of years before eventually getting her MBA and PhD in public health. During her free time, Sondos enjoys drawing, painting, and doing outdoor activities such as biking, caving, hiking, and rock climbing.

 

 

Shaefali Padiyar
Director of Internal Affairs

Bio: Shaefali is a second year with a pre-health concentration and is pursuing a certificate in finance. She is interested in cardiovascular tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and has conducted research in those areas since her first year. She hopes to use her knowledge as a BME to treat patients as a cardiovascular surgeon. Outside of SAB, she is involved in Alpha Gamma Delta, Women’s Recruitment Team, and For The Kids at Georgia Tech. A fun fact: she has witnessed an open heart “Humpty Dumpty” surgery live at the Cleveland Clinic!

 

 

Rachit Kumar

Bio: Rachit is in his 3rd year of BME on the pre-health track. He is currently hoping to pursue an MD-PhD combined degree after graduating from Georgia Tech. He is actively involved in research on and off campus, and his current research interests lie in the intersection of computer science and medicine, especially as it relates to machine learning and artificial intelligence, as well as computational neuroscience. In his free time, Rachit enjoys playing strategy games, hanging out with friends, and reading short stories.

 

 

Chimara Good
General Member

Bio: Chimara is a fifth year dual-degree BME with a physics major and is minoring in philosophy and HMS. She is happy to have the opportunity to serve the BME department on the Student Advisory Board, and has been serving for the past year; her goals are to ensure that students within the program are aware of their resources and to advocate for the minorities within the department. After graduation, Chimara plans on working for a company in their quality control or process management department, then venture to law school and become a patent attorney. Outside of bmedSAB, Chimara serves as the Academic Excellence Chair for the National Pan-Hellenic Council, serves as the Co-Director for the non-profit The Diamond Campaign, is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and is a part of the Platt Lab.
